Our Brief History

The Bradentucky Bombers is an all-female, full-contact, flat-track roller derby league that was the Las Vegas lovechild of founder Gigi RaMoan. Conceived in the bathroom of the Double Down Saloon as Gigi admired "Sin-City Rollers" graffiti on the wall, the league was rightfully named "Bradentucky Bombers" by her hubby Doug not minutes after conception.

Gigi acquired a pair of 1960's black artistic skates from her friend city councilman Pat Roff's deceased father. In this Cinderella-like story the skates fit Gigi perfectly. She immediately painted flames on them and hit the pavement with flyers in hand, scouting around town for more interested skaters.

That was a year and a half ago. Today, we are 30+ skaters strong, consisting of three teams: The MENSA Misfits, the Left-HOOK Hunnies and the CutThroat Cuties. Our inaugural season ended in July 2007 and we are currently gearing up for '08.

Who We Are

Embracing traditions from every derby decade from the 1930s until now, we combine a dedication to the purity and competition of the sport with the spectacle of tongue-in-cheek skating personas and somewhat outrageous uniforms. Our Bradentucky Bomber logo represents those qualities we encourage in our skaters derived from those derby greats who came before us: female individuality, strength, toughness, and femininity.

We range in age from 18 to 40+. By day, we are working wives, mothers, students, teachers, Harley mechanics, administrative assistants, bartenders, web designers, artists, and everything in between. But a few nights a week, like Cat Woman, our alter-egos emerge as we pull up our fishnet stockings, strap on skates and transform into derby girls, with names like Busty Bruiser, Mission Mary Position, Vixen Da CrusHer, Snow Wipe U Out, Mia Psycho, Julia Seize-Her, Edna VanDetta and Smashley Whiplash.

Our Training

Being a Bomber requires our gals to rigorously train a minimum of 3 hours per week. Training includes mastery of basic and advanced skating skills as well as endurance training and conditioning. Our league coach, Bryan Wilkes, ensures that all skaters develop the strength, endurance and skill set required to safely and effectively participate in the hard-hitting, fast-moving sport of Roller Derby.

Our Mission Statement

To operate as a financially sustainable all-female flat track roller derby league that sponsors sportswomanship and athleticism. We are run for the skaters, by the skaters. To promote the physical and mental strength and independant spirit of women to the community at large. To pursue membership in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) to represent Bradenton, Florida (and small towns across the nation) in local, regional and national competitions.

Note: The Bradentucky Bombers comply with all standards established by the WFTDA. WFTDA, the Womens Flat-Track Derby Association, is our national governing body composed of independent, all-girl roller derby leagues from across the country. The mission of the WFTDA is to promote and foster the sport of women’s flat-track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. For more information, visit the WFTDA website.
